Collaborative Design and Tailored Solutions

The project began with a detailed consultation to understand the unique needs of the children attending Marjorie McClure School. Our team worked closely with school staff, as well as the building contractor and architect, to ensure that the ceiling hoist systems were designed with precision and care. This collaboration was essential to ensure that the hoists would function seamlessly within the space and meet all necessary safety and accessibility standards.

Each of the 37 ceiling hoist systems was custom-designed to provide smooth, safe, and efficient mobility for the students. With our deep expertise in the field of assistive technology, we knew that each hoist needed to be easy to use, safe for children, and adaptable to the school’s changing needs.

Seamless Installation Process

The installation of 37 specialist hoists at Marjorie McClure School required a tailored solution to meet the school’s unique needs. Medaco provided the necessary expertise in disabled hoists and safe handling procedures, working closely with the contractor, architect, and other trades to ensure a smooth installation.

Josh Singleton, site manager for Galliford Try, said, “The collaboration with other trades was great. We faced many challenges, but Medaco made it all possible.” With 3,500 square feet to cover, Medaco’s experience ensured the precise and successful installation.

Addressing the Needs of Students and Staff

Prior to the installation of the hoist systems, the children at Marjorie McClure School had to remain in their wheelchairs throughout the school day, a situation that contributed to pressure sores and hindered their overall well-being. The new ceiling hoists provide students with the mobility they need to move around freely and comfortably, which is crucial for their health.

This transformation is not only beneficial for the children but also for the staff. For the staff, this new equipment gives them the confidence to safely hoist and move the children. The installation has made everything easier and more efficient.

The Impact on the Students

The installation of these hoist systems has made a significant difference for the students at Marjorie McClure School. With the new equipment, the children can now participate in activities such as swimming, playing on trampolines, and enjoying the soft play area—experiences that are often out of reach for children with mobility challenges. The ceiling hoist systems enable them to do things that able-bodied children can, giving them the freedom and independence they deserve.
